Extended Information:
This versatile fitness tool can be used for balance training and core work by sitting, kneeling or standing on the disc. One reason this is such a great tool is that from any position, your stabilizing muscles are constantly being used to help you stay balanced on an unstable surface. Keep in mind that you can use one or two discs, depending on the exercise you want to perform, and the more inflated the disc is, the more difficult the exercise will be. If you are new to using the disc for fitness purposes, I recommend getting used to it by just standing and balancing with one foot (or you can use two discs at a time, with one foot on each disc). When you are ready to progress, you can add upper body movements such as lateral raises or biceps curls, while standing on the disc(s). For more advanced users, lower body movements such as side lifts or squats can be performed. Push-ups and abdominal exercises are two more examples of traditional training moves that can be made more intense when using the disc. Placing your hands on the disc(s) will make the push-up more difficult, while sitting on the disc performing V-ups or the Pilates teaser will challenge your abs in more ways than one. For more ideas on working your upper body, lower body and core using the FitBALL disc, check out the Great Balance and Stability Handbook.
