Mobility Issues and Aids For
most, basic daily tasks are carried out without issue or a second
thought. This, however, is not the case for those with mobility issues
or other bodily limitations. Those facing these challenges must adapt in
order to perform those same basic daily tasks. One
of the most important daily tasks for those with mobility issues is
mobility itself. An aspect of which involves the simple act of using a
car, whether as the driver or passenger, as we all need to transport
ourselves for various reasons including; work, school, shopping, etc. Mobility
issues can arise at any age due to various health conditions, but these
often increase naturally as we age limiting our range of physical
abilities. Mobility issues increase even further for those suffering with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Stroke, physical handicaps
or injuries and they often require the use of wheelchairs, canes,
walkers and other mobility devices. The more severe the health issue,
the more vital becomes the need for doctor visits and prescription
retrieval. These factors altogether increase the need for transport. Some of the issues with transportation include getting in/out of the vehicle, getting mobility devices in/out, using a seat belt, remaining safe while inside the car and practicing safe driving. These factors often result in the need for assistance from other people or tools. Thankfully,
there are many tools available to help overcome most mobility
challenges and make traveling easier and safer. Like anything in life;
if it is easier, more comfortable and not shrouded in doubt and
potential hardship, we are more likely to do it, otherwise it will be
avoided. This includes the feeling some have of being a burden to others
when they need to ask for help often. Overall,
mobility tools and aids not only help seniors, the disabled and others
with mobility issues to physically transport themselves to vital
locations for their body’s well-being, but also to stay emotionally
connected with family and friends. Mobility issues often present an increase in alone time and feelings of isolation. Therefore, mobility tools can open a once closed world in many ways as comfort and ease of use lends to increased confidence, independence and freedom.
