Serve Positivity & Independence For Dinner!
How Dining Aids help to encourage
One
of the biggest challenges for people living with any type of disability are the side effects that disrupt essential tasks of daily living. Small tasks that most do not think twice about as they come naturally, become challenges for those afflicted with physical ailments. Whether the disability is due to poor grip strength or shakes/tremors from
Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Stroke,
Arthritis, Aging or other Handicaps effecting the central nervous
system, the challenge becomes the difficulty - and sometimes inability - to simply feed
themselves by typical means of grasping a utensil and delivering food from plate to mouth. But help is available.
For
most people, the basic act of getting food from plate to mouth is not
even a consideration. But, for people suffering with disabilities, simply
eating a meal can become an ordeal. The frustration and oftentimes embarrassment, shame or disappointment can discourage eating in public,
with family and friends or even at all. A cycle of malnutrition and
depression can then lead to a downward spiral, even worsening.
Specialty dining tools have been developed as need has arisen over time. We are now at a place where these are available in a multiple array of options to aid in the daily dining
needs of those suffering from disabilities. They enable individuals to eat
with little to no help, some even gaining the courage to attempt eating
by themselves for the first time in a long time or ever!
With the implementation of Dining
Aids, proper nutrients will begin to be received,
confidence will naturally follow while independence and freedom is regained (or becomes
possible) in a self-sufficient lifestyle. The
combination has shown to create and foster positive psychological
effects for the users and care givers alike.
Dining Aids improve the all-around quality of life for the disabled and those caring for them, too!
