Legg-Calve Perthes Disease (LCPD) is a childhood hip disorder initiated by a disruption of blood flow to the ball of the femur called the fermoral head. Due to the lack of blood flow, the bone does and stops growing. This disease afflicts approx. 1 in 1200 children. About 5% develop the disease in both hips (bilaterally). Recovery is long term (usually ranges between 1-2 years) but results can achieve a useful, instead of permanently damaged, hip joint for your child.
