Orfit® Coil Springs and Wire - These convenient ready-made coils can easily be incorporated into mobilization orthoses to provide “work” in the form of functional support of joints, assistance for weak or absent muscles, and resistance or stretch to joints with limitations in joint range of motion. Stretching a spring or bending a wire with a coil requires the release of energy: when the spring is pulled to a certain length, the force needed is equal to the tension for that length. This force is increased as the spring stretches or the spring wire bends.

Knuckle Bender Coil
  • Designed to assist the intrinsic muscle weakness, e.g. with ulnar nerve palsy.
  • The spring can also be turned upside down to increase spring power.
  • Torque at full finger extension: ca. 1000 g.cm.
  • Gauge 1 mm – 1/24″ – Coil diameter 4 mm – 1/6″
Finger Extension Assist
  • The short leg is secured between two layers of Orfit Classic.
  • The long leg is bent to size.
  • At total finger flexion the spring is tightened up to a torque force of ca. 2000 g.cm.
  • The spring is especially designed for finer extension assists in combination with an Orfit splint.
  • Gauge 1 mm (1/24″) – coil diameter 4 mm (1/6″).
Finger Coil Spring
  • The short leg is bent and anchored in the dorsal bridge of the splint.
  • The long leg is bent and cut to length.
  • The spring power is adjusted by altering the coil design.
  • Gauge 0.7 mm (1/37″) – coil diameter 5 mm (1/5″).
Wrist Extension Coil
  • Torque force when tightened over an angle of 130° : 5000 g.cm.
  • Gauge 1.5 mm (1/16″) – coil diameter 15 mm (3/5″).
Spring Wire
  • For making your own coil springs and outriggers with rounded pliers and jig.
  • Length : 15 m (591″).
  • Thickness : 1 mm (1/24″).
